Dextrans in chemistry are branched polysaccharides composed of α-D-glucose units linked by α-1,6 or α-1,3 glycosidic bonds. They are produced by the hydrolysis of starch or by certain lactic acid bacterial. They have various applications in pharmaceutical, biomedical, and industrial fields.
